She is the owner and chief consultant of SafeHouse Educational Consulting, a company designed to provide support services to K-12 institutions to meet the “highly qualified” standards of state and national accountability. Her service through her educational consulting and her most recent professional service to teachers in Kansas City’s urban core is evidence of her commitment to quality professional development that is ongoing. Her passion for learning spans across both adult learning and adolescent growth and development.
YaLonda serves as the Chairperson of Kansas City’s Chapter of the National Congress of Black Women. YaLonda has been actively engaged in civic commitments demonstrating the passion of the organization to invigorate and empower black women. Furthermore, her social and civic engagement is expressed in her current efforts to develop The Women’s Empowerment Network a springboard from The Woman, Her Words, Her Worth a social organization which was founded in 2016 through Ms. Smith’s efforts to bring black women together around common themes. This organization is devoted to providing a forum for black women to network and engage in what YaLonda calls “mirroring” (a term coined to express the process of social support and mental health development).
YaLonda Smith is a devoted parishioner and is actively engaged in the local ministry of New Vision Christian Church having served as the team lead in the Prayer Ministry, Praise Team, and Sunday School as a youth teacher. As in her professional and social/civic engagement, she is continuously working in the growth and development of herself and others.
